A Caring Family Environment
Hello! I am Stephen Heard, owner and on-site Administrator of The Baird Nursing Home, which is a unique combination of roles. Proudly, I am a 30-year resident of Greece,
where along with my wife of 39 years, we raised our two children. Now we have four grandchildren! The year I was married, 1975, also marked the beginning of my Nursing
Home Administrator's License, which I have repeatedly renewed through continuing education. In 1989, I came to The Baird and in 2000 took ownership of our small, 28 bed,
Rochester, NY nursing home. I cannot even count the number of Greece and Irondequoit families I have come to know and enjoy over this period of time. Welcome to my
second home, at The Baird.
Personalized Care to Meet Resident Needs
Since 1953, located in Rochester near the Seneca Park Zoo and embedded within the Greece and Irondequoit neighborhoods, The Baird has been serving the Greater
Rochester community with residential, one-on-one physical therapy and respite care. Our goal is to help each resident maintain the highest quality of life possible
within a caring family environment.
Upon Admission, a new resident chooses between a spacious private room or a companion roommate. With a high staff-to-resident ratio, our well tenured staff delivers
their commitment to the on-going care of your loved one. Compassion and professionalism are shown through The Baird Nursing Home's nurses, dietary specialists,
one-on-one physical, occupational, and speech therapists, social, physical, and intellectual activities personnel, social worker, and nursing assistants. Baird
caregivers will grow to know your loved one and family on a personal level. We are staffed to spend the extra time it takes to understand and focus on the
resident's unique needs and goals. Our staff, along with the resident's physician and family, builds a strong support system. This team creates and maintains
a custom-tailored plan of care for your Baird family member.
Reflections From Our Tenured Staff
"The Baird is Rochester's hidden treasure. Most Rochestarians do not realize the Baird is even here. The Baird is family oriented, with a homey feel to it.
I have been employed at the Baird for 14 years. When my dad needed rehab this year, the Baird is the only nursing home I considered. His one-on-one therapy
got him to his highest level of functioning and I know he was safe to be home alone upon discharge.
The love and attention he received from all staff during his stay is unmatched in town. The staff continues to ask about him daily. This is greatly appreciated.
All of our residents receive this care and attention! They and their families become our family. Our staff is remarkable."
Bonnie Jensen, RN, Director of Nursing, 14 years of service to The Baird Nursing Home residents
"There are so many special qualities about The Baird Nursing Home. The one that stands out for me is our size. Being small is such a unique thing to be,
especially in this day and age. The Baird is so homey and the staff really gets to know the residents and their families, so very well. Their family
becomes our family. We go through happy and sad times together. We become so attached to each and every resident. So yes, we are small, but I wouldn't
have it any other way!!!"
Kathi Hartgrove, Office Manager, 28+ years of service to The Baird Nursing Home residents
"I think staff-to-resident ratio at The Baird is great! We are small and it gives the staff a longer time to be with the resident, to talk to them and
help them with what they may need or want."
Kim Remillard, Dietary, 15 years of service to The Baird Nursing Home residents
"A resident who had spent time at the Baird in our Respite Program, described it as an all inclusive vacation. He said, "What more can you ask for: a
clean room with everyday housekeeping; three full meals; snacks; entertainment; activities; pleasant staff?"
Respite for temporary care is like an all inclusive vacation. Room with housekeeping, three full meals with snacks, entertainment, activities and most of
all a staff that cares!"
